Sam is the director of the Digital Intelligence Lab at the Institute for the Future. He previously served as Director of Research for the Computational Propaganda Project, and remains involved as an affiliated researcher. Sam is also a fellow at Google’s human rights oriented think-tank and incubator Jigsaw and the UW Law School’s Tech Policy Lab. He recently received his PhD from the department of Communication at the University of Washington, where his dissertation addressed the use of bots during the 2016 US election.
